Spring is finally in the air and although here in New York Mother Nature has still given us a bit of hesitation due to random snow, preparation for planting is in effect everywhere. Seedlings are sprouting and awaiting their new homes in the earth, while farmers prepare their plots big and small with excitement of the pending growing season. With that being said there is no lack of excitement emanating from DIG Farm right now either. After having such an amazing support last year, building relationships with a variety of wonderful individuals and groups alike and just really being so grateful for the acre and a half we had to commune with nature we just cant wait to see what 2018 has to offer. So we are inviting all DIG-gers to bring their passion for organic farming, sustainability and living symbiotically with nature out to hit the ground running with us.
Tomorrow April 11th the amazing Allison Turcan will be joining an outstanding group of people at Luther Burbank Community Garden at 6:30 p.m. speaking about DIG Farm's mission, goals and upcoming plans for this season. Sunday April 15th Burke's Restaurant and Bar, 645 Bronx River Rd. Yonkers NY. 10704., will be hosting DIG Farm with an optional open bar for $30 from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. and 20% of all food proceeds during that time, help support DIG Farm's efforts and enjoy food samples and a 50/50 raffle. Burke's has been generous enough to run the 20% donation from all food sales again on Tuesday May 1st, but this time for the whole day of service, starting at 8am until close. April 22nd we are encouraging everyone to join us out on DIG Farm for Earth Day to take part in a variety of tasks, meet some fantastic volunteers from the Starbucks family and help to build raised beds, lay wood chips and so many much more! Spend your Earth Day outside with us on the farm Getting Dirty (for those of you who listen to the radio show that was an intentional pun). Come out and celebrate spring with us on April 29th at Panchos & Gringos, 779 Federal Rd. Brookfield CT. 06804 from 1 p.m. until ??? They have put together an all you can eat buffet for $20 and paired it up with either $5 Margaritas/Sangria or $3 Beers.
These events help us to build relationships with like minded people while helping to finance up coming projects and ensure DIG Farm is a successful teaching farm for so many people young and old. Help support projects like the one we have on going at Hawtree Creek Middle School in Queens NY. Shortly after mid May we will be back there with some fantastic kids getting an on going garden project up and running with them for a third growing season! Helping to provide this kind of hands on exposer to the next generation of potential growers is so crucial to the future. We are also so elated to be apart of a new farmers market location at Preston High School 2780 Schurz Avenue Bronx NY 10465 every Tuesday evening 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting June 12th. A joint collaboration between various groups, local purveyors and the growers alliance. We are grateful to be apart of bringing organic locally source fruits and vegetables and healthy food options made from scratch by members of the local and surrounding communities. Listen in Monday nights at 6 p.m. to Hudson River Radio while Allison Turcan and Iwona Pilarska are "Getting Dirty" and stay on top of upcoming events, don't be shy call in and expand on the topic of the night! There is almost always someone new on the show to share their knowledge with the masses.
Dealing in good is what we do, we look forward to meeting you soon!
