Our Mission
The Access Nature Project Mission is to bring the benefits of nature to underserved populations. Our unique focus on self-sufficiency enables our participants to enjoy nature outings on their own, creating a lifetime tool for wellbeing and a connection to the natural world.
Programs
In 2023 D.I.G. Farm partnered with The Access Nature Project to run outdoor nature programs for people with disabilities and the underserved. Programs are held at D.I.G. Farm and other locations around the area. Programs primarily serve young adults on the spectrum, adults with chronic mental illness and families with limited means. All programs are of no cost to partner organizations and participants.
Educational Outreach
We believe that the concept of creating outdoor nature programs for the underserved is a concept worth sharing. We also believe that the knowledge of how to create and safely run these programs is also worth sharing. For this reason, we also provide educational classes for those organizations who would like to learn how to create these programs in their home communities.
Bonnie Robins
Director of The Access Nature Project Bonnie Robins has a long history of activist involvement in nature issues. Growing up in Northern Westchester, she fell in love with its rural ambience. A pioneer in the ecology movement, in 1969, she published one of the first environmental periodicals in the United States. She was at the forefront of the land preservation movement in the late 90's which resulted in saving over 1000 acres of land in the town of Lewisboro. Bonnie comes to us with a wealth of experience in outdoor programming for the community. One of the original members of the Lewisboro Land Trust, she was the Director of Access Nature there for 8 years. She is passionate about bringing the benefits of nature to the underserved and believes ALL people deserve to gain those benefits. D.I.G. Farm is delighted to partner with her on this important project.
