About the event
Nature is the best source of craft material that can beautify and enhance our lives and homes. Participants will learn how to identify and harvest the correct plants, then how to weave them into nearly any shape you can dream of using simple basketry techniques. You will leave class with the ability to go into your own neighborhoods (or even yards) and create finer and grander baskets right away.
We will be working with pine bark to make folded baskets and trays of various sizes. It is one of the first materials that comes into season in the spring and is remarkably easy to harvest and work with.
This class is perfect for both the beginner basketmaker and beginner forager. Each class will be taught twice, but no class requires previous attendance or other prerequisites.
Bring: The mosquitos and ticks will be foraging too so dress appropriately. We will be entering areas with both poison ivy and thorny plants. Closed toed shoes with long pants, long sleeve shirts, hats, and sunglasses are all strongly encouraged. Optionally, If you have gardening pruners please bring them. They will make things easier and smoother for everyone.
